Decoupage by Design5 Studio

For Molly Dhiman of Design5Studio, "design is functional, design is meant for a purpose and therefore, it has to work like any other tangible feeling. A good design touches you, tickles you, at times, hopefully, even leaves you amazed. Design is sensory, be it a visually stunning graphic piece of work, the rough molding of a new instrument or even the sky-reaching architecture of a building. It arouses your senses, any of them, sometimes all of them."

Based on these thoughts Molly started Design5Studio with a vision to take her customers on a whirlwind journey of the five senses! Molly uses 'Decoupage' extensively in her design and every piece  made in her studio is handmade, therefore unique.

Her products are made out of wood taken from rejected old furniture pieces that people usually throw out. She picks out the most usable bits and cut them into usable sizes (no carpenter here!) The wood surface is scrubbed clean, made even & smooth. Then cut and fixed into desired shapes and sizes. Later she 'primers' them. For Molly, this step out of the entire process is the most cumbersome and toughest and usually takes 2-3 weeks to get enough wood for one set, ready for designing. Each piece goes through strict quality control.

The next step is 'decoupaging' these prepared wooden products with paper designed by her. which is  later sealed with a sealant. Molly spends a lot of time in preparation and ensures that no two pieces are the same, thus every piece gets the designer status. As per wiki, Decoupage is the art of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf and so on. Commonly an object like a small box or an item of furniture is covered by cutouts from magazines or from purpose-manufactured papers. Molly has been wonderful enough to share a step by step DIY guide to decoupaging an empty bottle.
