  1. Keep it Minimal

A pooja room should have a calm atmosphere. Hence, one should avoid cluttering it with too many pictures or idols, as this would cause a visual distraction and interfere with the area's serenity. Furthermore, pooja rooms should only be utilised for keeping pooja-related goods.

  1. Entrance

The pooja room’s entry should be distinct from the rest of the house's entrances. Traditional alternatives such as wood doors with carvings, bells, or gem-encrusted work will never go out of fashion. Clear glass doors with themes are new alternatives that are both attractive and welcoming, enabling one to see the deity from the outside. You may decorate the pooja room entry by creating a rangoli or using a rangoli sticker. You may also place a tall planter on each side of the entrance and drape a toran over the doorway. Marigold flowers are considered sacred and therefore should be used.

  1. Mandir

Wooden mandirs complement any home finish or décor concept. Such pooja rooms give grandeur to a room. Wooden décor, on the other hand, requires adequate care and upkeep. When lighting candles and diyas in the room, you must exercise extreme caution. If you have a large home with enough space for a dedicated pooja room, there is no better alternative than marble ones. Although it will require significant care and investment, it will survive for a long time and you will not have to worry about termites. Small mandirs are perfect for flats and small residences that don't have enough space for a separate pooja room. These mandirs are widely available in the store or can be custom-made.

  1. Idols

The size of the idols in the pooja room should be proportionate to the size of the room. A huge idol is appropriate in a large pooja room but seems out of place in a tiny one. You can still Have idols of several gods and goddesses, but avoid having more than one idol of the same god. Check that the idols and pictures are in good shape, with no cracks or defects. Avoid placing idols from antique temples in your home's pooja room. Place the idols in the east or west rather than the north or south. Any images of the deities should not be shown on the north or south walls. The idols should not be placed such that they face one another.

  1. Lights

The illumination in the pooja room, as in other sections of the house, influences its elegance. When seeking ideas for small pooja room designs, smart lighting might be a solution that hides from the pooja area's restricted space. Since the pooja area should be serene, avoid using focal lights or beams but rather choose ambient lighting. Decorate the shrine with beautiful fairy lights or little battery-operated tea lights. Alternatively, emphasise the entryway with a strip of LED lights.

  1. Wall Decor

If you have a separate pooja room in your house, you may pick an appealing mandir background to complement the overall appearance of the area. A wall-sized backdrop décor may give your area a sense of luxury. These wall décor backdrops are available in a variety of sizes and colour combinations that may be chosen with the interiors in mind. Corian illuminated panels are used by interior designers as an option to feature walls in living areas and bedrooms. The concept may also be used in the pooja room, as the panel can be personalised with designs such as religious symbols, holy phrases, or engravings of gods and goddesses to add a distinctive touch to your pooja room.

  1. Accessories

Some designs can give the space a new look and turn it into a haven of tranquillity and meditation. Long hanging bells, which are commonly found in temples, can be incorporated into your worship space as well. Freshly created rangolis are commonly used to adorn the floor in front of the altar, a more permanent option would be to simply paint the rangoli design on the floor in a contrasting colour. Other methods to decorate the floor include a tiny rug, a colourful cushion, and an urli filled with flowers. Loose flowers or petals scattered around the mandap, classic brass lamps, diyas and bells, and antique-looking framed images of gods can all be utilised to decorate the pooja area.

Finally, the pooja area, like any other room, needs a spectacular feature that distinguishes it. Examine the different options, such as a colourful painting, a tile accent, or pooja room door designs. Choose thoughtfully depending on the aspect that is most suited to the home's size and design. As a pooja room is a holy area, it should be constructed with cleanliness and care in mind. The layout and materials chosen might influence the amount of care necessary to keep the area tidy.
